The Rock is arguably the greatest wrestler is the history of the WWE. He is the most electrifying man in all of entertainment, the people’s champion, the Brahma bull , the Jabroni Beating, Pie Eating, Trail Blaizing, Eyebrow raising, stronger than a bear, arms wider than a log, important enough to be mentioned in a blog, THE ROCK. (He does have that many nicknames) And on Sunday January 27th, CM Punk will go one on one with the great one. Now as much as I like the Rock, this match has problems written all over it.
Now let’s break down the possibilities of a clean win for either competitor. A clean win involves no interference, no cheating, just one superstar fairly pinning his opponent or making them tap out.
If CM Punk wins then his epic title reign continues at the expense of one of the all time greats. This makes Punk looks really good going into Wrestlemania 29. The downside to this, however, is that the Rock has been paid a lot of money to work this event and should be booked well, especially because he is also wrestling at Wrestlemania. I think this is the more logical way to end the match between the two but it does negatively affect the Rock, unless booked in the right way.
Let’s look at what happens if The Rock wins the title. First off, the entertainment world blows up as “Dwayne Johnson” one of Hollywood’s favorite actors is now a wrestling champion once again. This brings huge publicity to the WWE. The negative effect however, is that THE ROCK IS TOO BUSY FILMING MOVIES TO BE A CHAMPION. He wouldn’t wrestle at house shows or even show up to Raw every week and there is no chance in hell that Hollywood would let him wrestle in the dreaded Elimination Chamber match at February’s extravaganza. This idea is by far the worse option.
CM Punk vs. The Rock is a good match on paper and will probably be an even better match in the ring but no matter what you choose as the outcome the booking will have to be tremendous. I wish the WWE writers luck, they are gonna need it.
